Ingo Kleinert: two decades 2010
German-born artist Ingo Kleinert came to Australia
with his family as a young boy. He has worked, taught
and exhibited in Australia and in Europe. While his
work has variously been conceptual, photographic
and sculptural, it can be broadly characterised as
performative.
Two Decades looks in depth at the artist’s fascination
with found materials, especially that most ubiquitous of
Australian building materials — corrugated iron.
Redolent of a rural landscape now in decay, this
material is transformed in Ingo Kleinert’s hands into
a poetic substance, capable of transcendent beauty,
melancholy and metaphor.
About the authors: Anne Virgo is the Director of
the Australian Print Workshop in Melbourne. While

Ingo Kleinert’s work on several occasions. She is the art
advisor to the ACT Legislative Assembly Art Collection.
